Tranexamic acid inhibits various enzymatic pathways, therefore helping erase hyperpigmentation. It acts by competing with tyrosine. Having more affinity than tyrosine for the enzyme tyrosinase, it blocks the melanin production pathway. At the same time, Tranexamic acid blocks the formation of plasmin – a protein that induces the synthesis of the hormone that activates melanogenesis (Alpha-melano-stimulant) and the release of arachidonic acid that would end up activating melanogenesis.
